A member of the mint family, the smooth, lush leaves are highly aromatic so it is not surprise they lend a herbaceous, anise-like flavour with undertones of mint. Dried leaves take on a more clove-like aroma with a peppery finish due to the concentrated flavour compound also found in cloves and allspice.
Suggested use: perfect with tomatoes, sauces, soups and terrines
