Nigella Seeds are sometimes called Kalonji. They have been cultivated for more than 3000 years. Ancient Arabs appreciated the medicinal properties and said Nigella was a cure for all diseases except death. They are often mislabeled as Black Onion Seeds, Black Caraway Seeds and Black Cumin. Nigella Seeds come from a plant in the buttercup family and have a nutty flavour with slight peppery notes. The seeds are very hard and should be ground in a mill or grinder, not by hand.
Suggested uses: marries well with vegetables, especially root vegetables, grains and lugumes
