Harissa

Harissa is a spice blend common in Middle Eastern and North African cuisine. It originated in the 16th century and is most often purchased in paste form. We make ours as an authentic dry blend which can be used as a a dry rub. When mixed with water and a little olive oil it can be used as a marinade and tabletop condiment. Perfect for sprinkling over eggs, pepping up soups and tagines, or mixing with butter to melt over grilled lamb or steak. You can reduce the heat by adding tomatoes, or mint.

Usage & Tips

To create a paste, combine two teaspoons of harissa powder with ½ teaspoon of olive oil and ½ teaspoon of water. If the paste becomes too thick, add equal parts olive oil and hot water until you achieve the desired consistency.

Recipe

2 TBSP Harissa Blend

1/2 TBSP Olive Oil

1/2 TBSP Water

You can increase water & oil to adapt density.
